ArMA Welcomes Pima County Medical Society to Its Society Management Department

Southern Arizona physicians gain enhanced resources through new administrative partnership.

PHOENIX, Arizona  — Organized medicine is all about community, collaboration, and ingenuity.


That's why, several years ago, the Arizona Medical Association established a department to help local county, specialty, and sub-specialty physician societies effectively manage their organizations and create intentional value for their members.


Today, ArMA's Society Management Department assists a dozen societies with their day-to-day operations — including services such as accounting, communications, and membership management — allowing physician leaders to focus on the bigger picture: strategically pursuing their unique mission and driving change in their specialty or region.


The Pima County Medical Society is the latest physician organization to trust ArMA's team with its administrative management. While receiving administrative support for its daily operations, PCMS will remain fully independent and governed entirely by its Board of Directors.


"The Arizona Medical Association is honored to support the Pima County Medical Society," said Jason Jameson, MD, President of ArMA. "Our society management team serves more than a dozen local physician organizations by providing the administrative support they need to focus their time and energy on the initiatives and programming most important to members. Our role is simple: amplify the collective voice of Arizona physicians while ensuring each organization remains uniquely effective."


For physicians practicing in Southern Arizona, this means their county medical society now has enhanced resources to serve them and pursue its board-driven mission. Whether currently a PCMS member or not, physicians are encouraged to leverage the society to impact healthcare in Southern Arizona and build their local network.


Dr. Wendy Huempfner, PCMS's President, and Emma Jensen, PCMS's Executive Director, warmly welcome Southern Arizona physicians: "Only unity can help us overcome the challenges we face. PCMS is the forum for Southern Arizona physicians to come together and address these hurdles collectively. This relationship strengthens ArMA's collaboration with PCMS and enhances its local presence in Southern Arizona. ArMA continues to work with a growing number of medical societies statewide — building stronger networks, amplifying collective impact, and ensuring every physician can engage in organized medicine, no matter where they practice.

Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital Launches Largest Expansion in Its History Investment Expands Inpatient and Procedural Capacity to Meet Rising Demand for Cardiovascular Care The Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix announced last week that it is undertaking the largest expansion in its history. The new construction will add inpatient and procedural capacity to serve more Arizonans in need of heart and vascular care. Meeting Arizona's Growing Demand for Heart Care Abrazo explained that the expansion is necessary to support Arizona's continued population growth, which is driving increased demand for cardiovascular services. The added capacity will allow the hospital to not only treat more patients requiring cardiac, vascular, and critical care, but also continue its participation in clinical research and innovation.  Part of a Multi-Year Investment Strategy In its press release, Abrazo describes the expansion as the latest phase of ongoing, multi-year investments intended to advance care and meet the evolving healthcare needs of communities across the state. Katie Hobbs announced this week that more than $1 billion in medical debt has been erased for nearly 671,000 Arizonans, marking a significant milestone in the state's ongoing partnership with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. How the Program Works The initiative, first launched in 2024, purchases qualifying medical debt from hospitals and collection agencies for a fraction of its value before eliminating the debt entirely for eligible patients. Who Qualifies According to the governor's office, recipients do not need to apply for the program.
