Federal Policy Changes Anticipated to Impact Arizona Hospitals
According to a report from a consumer advocacy organization, eight Arizona hospitals are at risk of closing or reducing services due to recent federal policy changes.
The national report, published by Public Citizen, used hospitals' two-year net profit history and payer mix percentage to determine which are most at-risk of adverse impacts from H.R.1, the federal spending package passed by Congress last year.
A total of eight local hospitals were included on the list, including six Phoenix metro locations:
- Carondelet St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson
- Banner Goldfield Medical Center in Apache Junction
- Mountain Vista Medical Center (HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center) in Mesa
- Arizona General Hospital in Mesa
- Tempe St. Luke's Hospital (HonorHealth Tempe Medical Center) in Tempe
- Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix
- Abrazo Central Campus in Phoenix
- Exceptional Community Hospital in Bullhead City
When asked about the report by KJZZ, Valleywise Health Medical Center and Tempe St. Luke's Hospital issued separate statements with similar messages: that they are closely monitoring the financial impacts of the federal policy changes and planning accordingly.
