This accolade is reserved for those who have demonstrated unparalleled excellence, dedication, and leadership in medicine. This year, ArMA proudly names Dr. Jennifer Hartmark-Hill as our distinguished recipient. 

Dr. Hartmark-Hill’s career is a testament to the profound impact one dedicated physician can have on patients, students, and the broader medical community. A distinguished medical educator, research mentor, and social justice advocate, Dr. Hartmark-Hill has spent her career championing the intersection of medicine, education, and public health. Her dedication to service is evident in her work providing primary care to vulnerable populations, including her efforts at Federally Qualified Health Centers and her leadership with Street Medicine Phoenix, where she has played a crucial role in delivering care to individuals experiencing homelessness. Through her commitment to equitable healthcare, she has expanded the capacity of these programs, fostering interprofessional collaboration across institutions and ensuring high-quality preventive care for those most in need.

As a past President of the Arizona Medical Association, Dr. Hartmark-Hill has been a driving force behind healthcare workforce initiatives, working to address critical shortages and improve physician training pipelines. Her leadership was also instrumental in establishing the Social Determinants of Health Center of Excellence, reinforcing her lifelong mission to address health disparities and advocate for patient-centered care. She continues to represent Arizona at the national level as a member of the Arizona Delegation to the American Medical Association, amplifying the voices of physicians and patients alike.

In addition to her advocacy and clinical work, Dr. Hartmark-Hill is shaping the future of medical education as the Director of the Academic Medicine Fellowship and the Program for Narrative Medicine & Health Humanities at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. She holds dual professorships in the Department of Family, Community & Preventive Medicine and the Department of Bioethics & Medical Humanism, where she mentors the next generation of compassionate, socially-conscious physicians.

Through her unwavering commitment to service, education, and advocacy, Dr. Hartmark-Hill has left an indelible mark on Arizona’s medical community. Her leadership, mentorship, and compassion more than qualify her as a truly deserving recipient of the Arizona Medical Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
