Hahn Soe-Lin, MD
The Wallace A. Reed, MD Award, named after the anesthesiologist who opened Arizona’s first free-standing ambulatory surgical facility, recognizes innovation in healthcare. This year’s award is presented to Dr. Hahn Soe-Lin.
Dr. Soe-Lin was recognized for his innovative program, the Knowledge Donor Program, which addresses a major gap in medical education wherein 22% of surgical residents don’t complete their training due to a lack of hands-on experience.
His high-fidelity cadaveric training includes life-like tissue, blood perfusion, and ventilation, providing thousands of practice hours to residents who might not have otherwise received it. This shifts surgical education from apprentice-based learning to structured, clustered instruction, greatly improving resident competency. The Knowledge Donor Program exemplifies how innovative education models can directly enhance healthcare delivery by ensuring that future surgeons are equipped with both the skills and ethical foundation necessary for excellent patient care.
