West Valley Hospital Reopens Renovated Space to Meet Growing Need for Pediatric Services

Banner Children's at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center reopened its pediatric emergency department lobby after closing for renovations, marking the first phase of a comprehensive facility expansion in northwest Phoenix.

The pediatric emergency department lobby reopened on December 9, creating a dedicated space for pediatric emergency care separate from adult services. The renovation includes updated pediatric emergency rooms and a distinct adult patient lobby, with the complete emergency department remodel scheduled for completion in June 2026.

The expansion addresses growing demand for pediatric emergency services and specialized care in the West Valley. Banner Thunderbird serves as a critical access point for emergency pediatric care in northwest Phoenix metro.

Construction continues on a five-story women and infant services tower expected to open by the end of 2026. The new tower will house labor and delivery suites, dedicated obstetrics units, OB triage facilities, C-section rooms, and a neonatal intensive care unit.

A third construction phase scheduled for 2028 will add six surgical suites along with expanded pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit space. The multi-phase project aims to expand access to advanced medical services across the West Valley.
