Physician-backed Insurance Reforms Advancing in Arizona State Legislature
A key commercial insurance reform championed by the Arizona Medical Association is gaining momentum at the Arizona State Capitol — and enactment looks promising.
SB1628: Claims Denial and Prior Authorization Reporting
Senate Bill 1628 (claims denial; prior authorization; reporting) — which would require insurers to report data on medical claims and prior authorization denials — is scheduled for a hearing in the House Health & Human Services Committee on Monday.
The bill would require insurers to report key data to the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions. DIFI would then be charged with publishing an annual, publicly available report, which it would also disseminate to key legislative leadership. By arming advocates with vital, concrete data, the bill would pave the way for future insurer reforms to improve the practice of medicine and patient care.
