Executive Department

Libby McDannell, CAE, Chief Executive Officer

Libby McDannell is an experienced nonprofit leader with an outstanding record of organizational growth and demonstrated ability to energize and positively influence team members and others. Prior to coming to ArMA, Libby served as the CEO & Executive Vice President of the American Society of Transplantation (AST), the largest organization of transplant professionals in North America. She previously served as Executive Director for three other national associations. She has more than 15 years of executive management experience, specifically in the nonprofit, healthcare field. As the Executive Vice President for ArMA, Libby serves as the chief staff executive and oversees all association activities. She works in concert with the board of directors and devotes her time to executive management, advancing ArMA’s advocacy agenda, exploration of partnerships, and new program development.

Susan Brown, Director of Executive Services

Susan began her career at ArMA as a receptionist in 1986. She then worked with the membership department for 14 years, seeing the department through myriad transitions and database systems. In 1996, Susan became ArMA’s information systems coordinator and still oversees the use and application of ArMA’s technology in operations, communications and membership database management. As Director of Executive Services, Susan works closely with the Executive Vice President to coordinate the Annual meeting of the ArMA House of Delegates, the ArMA Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA), and staffs the ArMA Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

Damien Johnson, Director of Communications

Damien joined ArMA in June of 2018 with over 4 years of communications experience in the nonprofit sector. Prior to transitioning into the communications field, Damien spent 9 years as a paramedic working both within local hospital systems and private ambulance companies. As Director of Communications with ArMA, Damien manages all member and public communications, The Arizona Pulse online digital magazine, and is staff liaison to ArMA's Public Health Committee and Medical Student Section. Damien earned a Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing his Master's of Business Administration through Grand Canyon University.

Cathy Schmit, Associate Vice President of Finance 

Cathy joined the association in 1982 to convert ArMA’s membership records, kept manually until that time, to an automated system. Two years later she was promoted and currently serves as the Associate Vice Presient of Finance. In this capacity, she is responsible for all tax and in-house accounting for ArMA, ArMA’s Foundation and 13 Specialty Societies. Cathy is also responsible for oversight of the Annual Audit & Budget, Insurance Negotiations, Investment Management, Personnel Requirements, Employee Benefit Programs, and for solicitation of contributions and filing federal and state PAC reports. Cathy provides staff support to the Committee on Finance, ArMA’s Retirement Plan Advisory Committee and the Mallory Trust Student Loan Program.

Membership Department

Simone Lustig, Associate Vice President of Membership and Development

As VP of Membership and Development, Simone is responsible for much of the membership department’s external workings, including meeting with current member groups and prospective groups as well as individual physicians. Simone is in charge of acquiring member benefits, and her other responsibilities include contacting and developing a relationship with practice managers, obtaining member contact information to ensure they receive all ArMA communications, and fielding membership questions. Simone manages sales of advertising for ArMA’s publications and website, negotiates contracts, and serves as the project manager for the annual President’s Banquet. Simone previously worked as an executive assistant at the Arizona legislature and as a district representative for a Congressman. She has extensive experience in marketing and sales.

Sharon Robinson, Director of Member Services

Shari Robinson joined ArMA in 2008 first as Membership Coordinator. She is now responsible for much of the membership department internal workings including coordination of membership data, and dues invoicing and processing. Her other responsibilities include membership database updates/uploads and verification, member benefit inquiries, and data reporting. Shari’s background includes Project Management along with many years in database coordination.

Advocacy Department


Jon Amores, Director of Government Relations

Jon Amores comes to ArMA with over 25 years of work in both the legislative and executive branches of government, in addition to extensive private sector experience.  Jon has practiced law, managed and run successful businesses, and served as the Vice-President of Private Banking for JP Morgan Chase Bank.  He is a seven-term member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, where among other leadership positions he served for three terms as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. He was then appointed to serve as Deputy Secretary and General Counsel of the WV Department of Commerce, and later served as director of two state agencies, the WV Racing Commission and the WV Real Estate Division. As ArMA’s Director of Government Relations, Jon is responsible for the overall management of ArMA’s advocacy efforts and directs the activities of the advocacy team.

 Rick Hazelton, Deputy Director of Government Relations

Rick Hazelton came to the Arizona Medical Association during the 2019 Legislative Session. As a native Arizonan with deep family roots also in Arizona, he graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Post Baccalaureate in Secondary Education. Rick began his professional career as a high school history teacher, eventually leaving the education profession to work for the Arizona House of Representatives. Rick comes to ArMA after serving nearly a decade as legislative staff with the Arizona House of Representatives. During his time at the Legislature, Rick staffed a variety of committees including the Health and Human Services committee. As part of his duties as a Legislative Research Analyst, Rick worked with a variety of health care stakeholders on many health care related issues. His experience at the Legislature serves him well in his role as Deputy Director of Government Relations. During his free time, Rick enjoys spending time with his family and practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

  Grace Meili, Government Relations Coordinator

Formerly known as “the intern”, Grace has been working for ArMA since the beginning of the 2018 legislative session. During her spring internship, Grace was in her final semester at Arizona State University, graduating in May 2018 with her B.A.s in Political Science and Spanish Linguistics. She plans to continue her legal education in law school. As the Government Relations Coordinator, she works closely with Rick, the Deputy Director of Government Relations, assessing and researching legislation and development of policy, as well as assisting with the Legislative and Governmental Affairs Committee and Arizona Medical Political Action Committee (ArMPAC). When she is not working, Grace enjoys spending time with her family, boyfriend and (mostly) dog Harlow.

Stephanie Butler, Doctor of the Day Program Manager

Stephanie manages ArMA's flagship "Doctor of the Day" program, hosting ArMA physicians' visits to the Arizona Capitol. She has been the Executive Director of the Arizona College of Emergency Physicians since 1999. She has a B.S. degree in Business and Accounting from the University of Arizona. Stephanie lives in the Phoenix area with her husband Brad, where they raised their two children. During her free time, she enjoys reading, golfing, traveling, and cheering on her UofA Wildcats!

Society Management Department



Patrice Hand, Associate Vice President of Specialty Society Services

Patrice joined ArMA in 1993, first as the Membership Coordinator, then as the Specialty Societies Coordinator. Patrice currently oversees the operations of 13 specialty societies and is responsible for the administrative work, communications, meetings, and finances of the societies. Prior to working for ArMA, Patrice spent over seven years with a communications company, first as a sales representative, then as sales manager.

Joni Bowers, Specialty Society Administrator

Joni joined ArMA on June 2006 as a part-time assistant in the Specialty Society Department and assumed a full-time position of Specialty Society Administrator in November 2007. She manages the Phoenix Society of Gastroenterology and the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and assists other specialty society staff with duties. Before joining ArMA, Joni was the office manager with a commercial painting company that did business around and with the State of Arizona.

Teri A. Harnisch, Specialty Society Administrator & Executive Assistant - Government Relations, ACCME Accreditor Coordinator

Within the Specialty Society Services Division, Teri works specifically for the Arizona Psychiatric Society as its Executive Director, and as such is responsible for the administrative support duties for that District Branch, including all aspects of administration, membership, financial management, governance, event planning, and serving as administrative liaison to the national organization (American Psychiatric Association). In addition to Teri’s main role as Executive Director of the Arizona Psychiatric Society, she also serves as ACCME Accreditor Coordinator for ArMA, and provides executive assistance to the ArMA Government Relations team.  In our community, Teri has served on the Board of Directors of Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association, Inc. (VNSA) for over fifteen years, having served as three terms as President, and is an active volunteer in several other community programs.  Teri brings to her work at ArMA fifteen years of experience as a legal secretary for the corporate Law Firm of Snell & Wilmer.

Deborah Webber, CAE, Executive Director of the American College of Physicians Arizona Chapter

Deborah (Debbie) Webber has spent her career in association management. She served over ten years as the COO and CFO of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), an educational association with over 45,000 members and 154 affiliates. While at ISM she held ultimate responsibility for financial strategy, membership, volunteer leadership development and all day-to-day business operations functions. She has provided nonprofit consulting services to various organizations and holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation. She has served as Executive Director for the international Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA), and the Arizona Psychological Association (APA), assisting APA with a return to financial stability. Debbie currently serves in ArMA’s specialty association department as the Executive Director of the American College of Physicians, Arizona Chapter.
