Libby McDannell, CAE, Executive Vice President

Libby McDannell is an experienced nonprofit leader with an outstanding record of organizational growth and demonstrated ability to energize and positively influence team members and others. Prior to coming to ArMA, Libby served as the CEO & Executive Vice President of the American Society of Transplantation (AST), the largest organization of transplant professionals in North America. She previously served as Executive Director for three other national associations. She has more than 15 years of executive management experience, specifically in the nonprofit, healthcare field. As the Executive Vice President for ArMA, Libby serves as the chief staff executive and oversees all association activities. She works in concert with the board of directors and devotes her time to executive management, advancing ArMA’s advocacy agenda, exploration of partnerships, and new program development.

Pele Peacock Fischer, J.D., Vice President of Policy and Political Affairs

Pele directs strategies in legal, political, and regulatory development and advocacy for ArMA. Before joining ArMA, Pele served as policy advisor and staff attorney to the majority at the Arizona House of Representatives, where she provided legal and policy analysis of current law and proposed legislation, and served as the Majority staff on multiple committees, including Health, Reform and Human Services, and Commerce. She grew up in Arizona, received her undergraduate degree in business from Southern Methodist University, and her law degree from the University of Idaho. Pele previously served as a law clerk to the U.S. Senate in Washington, D. C., before returning to Phoenix to practice law with the firm of Alvarez & Gilbert. Pele also worked in-house for First Solar. Pele serves on the University of Idaho College of Law Advisory Council and is active locally through the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, the Junior League of Phoenix, and Emerging Leaders for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She is a graduate of Scottsdale Leadership and the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy.

Joni Bowers, Specialty Society Administrator

Joni joined ArMA on June 2006 as a part-time assistant in the Specialty Society Department and assumed a full-time position of Specialty Society Administrator in November 2007. She manages the Phoenix Society of Gastroenterology and the Arizona Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and assists other specialty society staff with duties. Before joining ArMA, Joni was the office manager with a commercial painting company that did business around and with the State of Arizona.

Susan Brown, Director of Executive Services

Susan began her career at ArMA as a receptionist in 1986. She then worked with the membership department for 14 years, seeing the department through myriad transitions and database systems. In 1996, Susan became ArMA’s information systems coordinator and still oversees the use and application of ArMA’s technology in operations, communications and membership database management. As Director of Executive Services, Susan works closely with the Executive Vice President to coordinate the Annual meeting of the ArMA House of Delegates, the ArMA Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA), and staffs the ArMA Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

    Ingrid Garvey, Associate Vice President of Policy & Political Affairs

Ingrid manages the ArMA flagship “Doctor of the Day” program, hosting ArMA physicians’ visits to the Capitol. She works closely with the VP of Policy and Political Affairs, assessing and researching legislation and development of policy, and with the ArMA Legislative & Government Affairs Committee and Arizona Medical Association Political Action Committee (ArMPAC). Ingrid previously served as Senior Legislative Research Analyst for the Arizona House of Representatives, where she staffed several House committees, including seven years on the health, human services, and children and family affairs committees, researching laws in other states and developing big picture context for state policy. She has worked for the Resolution Trust Corporation and a small law firm performing paralegal work in business matters. Ingrid earned her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Arizona State University. She is an avid golfer and spends most weekends on the links.

Patrice Hand, Associate Vice President of Specialty Society Services

Patrice joined ArMA in 1993, first as the Membership Coordinator, then as the Specialty Societies Coordinator. Patrice currently oversees the operations of 13 specialty societies and is responsible for the administrative work, communications, meetings, and finances of the societies. Prior to working for ArMA, Patrice spent over seven years with a communications company, first as a sales representative, then as sales manager.

Teri A. Harnisch, Specialty Society Administrator

As a member of the ArMA Specialty Society Services Division, Teri works specifically for the Arizona Psychiatric Society as its District Branch director, and as such is responsible for the administrative support duties for that District Branch, including coordinating membership applications and communications, preparing documents for Executive Officers and Council meetings, participating in the planning of the annual meeting and other Society meetings throughout the year, and serving as administrative liaison to the national organization. Teri is involved with the Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association, Inc. (VNSA), where she recently served as president, and in the last ten years has been actively involved in the leadership of several nonprofit organizations. Prior to that time, Teri was a legal secretary for the corporate Law Firm of Snell & Wilmer for fifteen years.

Simone Lustig, Associate Vice President of Membership and Development

As VP of Membership and Development, Simone is responsible for much of the membership department’s external workings, including meeting with current member groups and prospective groups as well as individual physicians. Simone is in charge of acquiring member benefits, and her other responsibilities include contacting and developing a relationship with practice managers, obtaining member contact information to ensure they receive all ArMA communications, and fielding membership questions. Simone manages sales of advertising for ArMA’s publications and website, negotiates contracts, and serves as the project manager for the annual President’s Banquet. Simone previously worked as an executive assistant at the Arizona legislature and as a district representative for a Congressman. She has extensive experience in marketing and sales.

Sharon Robinson, Director of Member Services

Shari Robinson joined ArMA in 2008 first as Membership Coordinator. She is now responsible for much of the membership department internal workings including coordination of membership data, and dues invoicing and processing. Her other responsibilities include membership database updates/uploads and verification, member benefit inquiries, and data reporting. Shari’s background includes Project Management along with many years in database coordination.

Cathy Schmit, Associate Vice President of Finance 

Cathy joined the association in 1982 to convert ArMA’s membership records, kept manually until that time, to an automated system. Two years later she was promoted and currently serves as the Associate Vice Presient of Finance. In this capacity, she is responsible for all tax and in-house accounting for ArMA, ArMA’s Foundation and 13 Specialty Societies. Cathy is also responsible for oversight of the Annual Audit & Budget, Insurance Negotiations, Investment Management, Personnel Requirements, Employee Benefit Programs, and for solicitation of contributions and filing federal and state PAC reports. Cathy provides staff support to the Committee on Finance, ArMA’s Retirement Plan Advisory Committee and the Mallory Trust Student Loan Program.

Dixie Swan, Executive Director, Arizona Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP)

Dixie Swan joined the Arizona Medical Association staff in 2012. As Executive Director for the Az Chapter of the ACP, she manages all the activities of the Chapter in Arizona, including advocacy, chapter meetings and oversight of nine councils and committees. She manages all the Chapter’s communications including social media accounts, chapter Chats and the Governor’s newsletter. Dixie has a Masters in Communication from the University of Arizona and teaches courses in intercultural communication at Scottsdale Community College. She has traveled extensively and enjoys the enrichment this has brought to her career.
