A Statement in Response to Governor Ducey Providing Flexibility to Local Official to Decrease the Spread of COVID-19
June 17, 2020 (Phoenix) – The Arizona Medical Association (ArMA), the largest organization representing physicians in Arizona, has been vocal on the urgent need for additional guidance to the public and businesses as Arizona began reopening in May. Today, Governor Ducey provided flexibility by allowing local officials to implement policy reflective of the reality in their cities to help decrease the spread of COVID-19. The creation and enforcement of local measures will help provide a clear message to the public on the severity of the current crisis in Arizona.
“The data is clear, wearing a mask in public lowers the chance of spreading COVID-19,” stated Dr. Ross Goldberg, ArMA President. “Arizonans must understand the positive impact that wearing a mask and physical distancing can have on reducing the spread of this virus. There is much more work to be done, but we thank Governor Ducey for the actions he took today, showing that he is willing to continue to listen to healthcare experts.”
As always, ArMA is guided by the best available scientific evidence. ArMA will continue to be actively engaged and provide guidance to Governor Ducey’s office, state agencies, and local officials as our physician members focus on the health and safety of Arizona residents.
