The Arizona Medical Association (ArMA) applauds Arizona Governor Doug Ducey for issuing the "Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected" Executive Order earlier today. The Executive Order follows guidelines provided by the CDC and is an appropriate step to ensure we continue to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Arizona.
Dr. Whitely, Please allow me to register a different point of view. This order is woefully deficient in continuing to allow golf courses, beauty salons, barbershops and the like to function where people in close contact are breathing on each other. Given the geometric spread of this virus, The data from Wuhan which was just published this last week, the experience of Seattle, New York City, Detroit and New Orleans we need to aggressively shut the state down to save lives. Please consider suggesting a much more aggressive approach to save us all. Additionally, according to the data quoted in the New York Times, Arizona has done the fewest tests of any of the 50 states . Currently patients cannot get a test even with a doctors order unless secondarily screened. This is a disaster in the making.
It is ArMA’s mission to promote and provide leadership in the art and science of medicine; to preserve and improve the health of all Arizonans; to represent Arizona physicians in the public forum; and to defend Arizona physicians’ freedom and ability to practice medicine in the best interests of your patients.
